Disabled scanner Symbologies Memor X3

Hello,

I am currently working on a project for a client with Memor X3 handhelds running Windows CE. (Memor X3 1.05.Core )
We have noticed that on several devices the EAN-13, UPC..etc symbologies are always disabled, even if we try to enable it through the configuration tools or DCU, the device forces it back to disabled.

My questions are:

  1. Is this a known behavior of certain Memor X3 firmware versions?
  2. Is there a recommended way to enable Symbologies else than the basic Xml Configurator?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Pol Autret

Hi Pol,

There are several decoding parameters that can seem to block decoding of the EAN/UPC family of symbologies. The most commonly set parameter that users set that blocks decoding is requiring supplementals. This will take some explanation:

The Supplementals parameter is set to “Ignore” by default, so the decoder will decode labels in the EAN/UPC/JAN family without 2-digit or 5-digit add-ons whether the labels have add-ons or not.

The Supplementals param can be set to “Decode,” which requires add-ons to be decoded on the UPC/EAN label in order for it to pass through the label data. If a label has no add-on, it will not decode.

The Supplementals param can be set to “Autodiscriminate,” which allows UPC/EAN/JAN labels with or without add-ons to be decoded. This is versatile, but some POS systems require one format or the other, so this selection can create problems depending on your back-end app that processes the label data.

Depending on the firmware your Memor X3 is running, there are a lot of decoding parameters that can affect whether labels decode or not. I recommend you refer to your Memor X3 User’s Manual.

If you have more questions, please ask.

Good luck,
