MAC Address Changes on every reboot on Memor 11

Hi Everybody,

have a few new Memor 11 devices with current firmware 2.08.
On every reboot the MAC is changing! Why?
Have found an option MAC randomization, but it’s off! The MAC Adress of the WiFi changes anyway.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Thorsten,

Welcome to the forum. MAC addresses shouldn’t be changing on each reboot with the “MAC randomization” control disabled. Can you please send me your Memor 11’s serial number? I’d like to check production records for it.

Thank you,

Tried Firmware 2.04… with that firmware the MAC is the same after every reboot… 2.06 and 2.08 the MAC changes… I think thats a firmware “bug” … thanks

BTW… one of it: S25EC1270

Hi Scott, that issue depends on every Memor 11 when I upgrade the firmware to the latest version. I try at the moment a downgrade to 2.04 to look if it happens there too.

Thorsten

Thorsten,

Thank you for those details. I’m not reproducing that change of a MAC address on my hardware here in my lab. Before I ask you to go to the trouble of gathering logs of this behavior, would it be possible to try something for me? Would it disrupt your business to perform a factory data reset on your Memor 11? If it is possible, can you please do that? If it is not, I totally understand.

Thank you,

Thorsten,

I wrote up some instructions on how to record logs and how to get them off of your Memor 11, but I don’t know your e-mail address. Can you please reply with your e-mail address so I can share the instructions with you?

Hi Scott, I tried a factory reset several times and have still the “error” with the MAC… my mail address: tfranke@ftg-germany.de … Thanks. Thorsten

Thorsten,

I just shared my instructions for setting up logging and for getting the logs off of your Memor 11. I realized after I sent the file that I should apologize for a potential point of confusion. I finished writing the e-mail and was stepping through my instructions when I realized that I had forgotten to direct you to enable “Start logging on boot,” so I added that as step 3. All the graphics after that point have incorrect step numbers in the little arrows, so please just add one to each number from step 4 onward.

I’m eager to see your logs. Good luck.

Thank you,

Thorsten,

Just to recap from our conversation in e-mail: you sent me a second set of log files that clearly show that your Memor 11 changes its MAC address with every reboot. With “MAC randomization” disabled, this can happen because of failsafe code that will randomly assign a MAC address so users can connect to Wi-Fi AP’s, Bluetooth devices, and Ethernet networks in the absence of MAC addresses being permanently written to flash memory.

Although Datalogic makes every effort to ensure against it, it appears that this Memor 11 left the factory without having its MAC addresses burned info flash memory. This Memor 11 should still be covered by its warranty, so please contact Datalogic technical support for your language to arrange for a replacement under warranty. Please have your local technical support agent reach out to me for more details.

Good luck,
