Hello,
we deploy Skorpio X5 devices as Android Enterprise dedicated devices via Microsoft Intune, using Managed Home Screen in multi-app kiosk mode (Android lock task). @Scott_Kucera, you helped with a related Intune kiosk topic before – maybe you can take a look.
Device: Skorpio X5, Android 11, firmware 3.19.001.20230522s
Apps: Managed Home Screen 2.2.0.115192, Chrome 154 (web apps), Microsoft Teams
Enrollment: Intune QR code incl. PROVISIONING_LEAVE_ALL_SYSTEM_APPS_ENABLED = true
Problem:
When the screen turns off by timeout while an app is in the foreground, the scan trigger no longer works after waking the device. The display wakes up, but pressing the trigger does not turn on the scanner illumination – no scan at all.
Isolation so far:
- Outside kiosk mode (same device, same apps): works every time.
- In kiosk mode: fails for all apps (Chrome web app and Teams).
- Workaround: pressing Home and reopening the app restores scanning immediately. In the log this coincides with StopLockTask/StartLockTask by the DPC.
- Factory reset and re-enrollment with all system apps enabled: no change.
- Intune settings “Enabled system navigation features” and “System notifications and information” set/unset: no change.
Log findings (full logcat available via private message or support ticket):
- Failing case: DL-ScannerServer resumes correctly after suspend (removeSuspend completed return 0, camera opened). Trigger presses arrive in WindowManager (SCAN_CODE:314), but no decode/preview is started.
- Working case (after Home → reopen app): the same trigger immediately starts the camera preview and decoding.
It looks like the scanner service does not accept trigger input after resume while the device is in lock task mode, until the lock task is restarted.
Is this a known issue, and is there a firmware update, setting or OEMConfig option to fix it? Please also let us know if a newer firmware for Skorpio X5 (Android 11) addresses this.
Thank you,
Holger
